The Ride for Refuge is a cycling fundraiser that supports hundreds of charities who in turn support thousands more displaced, vulnerable, and exploited people around the world – refugees, orphans, widows, street kids, the urban poor, the homeless, victims of human trafficking, and many more.

Dues Payable for 2016-2017 It’s that time again! Dues are payable from January – March. Please include $5 late fee if payment is not made by March chapter meeting.

TN Cluster (April 1-3 in Chattanooga, TN) should be submitted online here and must be purchased through the chapter at the January or February chapter meeting. There will be no onsite registration. Cost is:

Arts and Letters: 
Let’s celebrate  Mother’s Day!!  Your Arts and Letters committee  Never Alone activity this month will be held in conjunction with the May Week committee.  The Isley Brothers will be appearing at the Nashville Symphony Center on Sunday, May 8 (Mother’s Day)!!  The tickets are $ 65.00 and may be purchased at Chapter meeting.  I’ll see you there!!

Sorors, here is another exciting Never Alone activity for us!!   Jamal Sheats’ phenomenal works are on display in the library at TSU Avon Williams campus.  I’ll see you at the reception!
 

 


Physical and Mental Health:
 
                                     
 
Sorors, let’s show how “We Go Red for Women”.  The Physical and Mental Health committee is asking all Sorors to wear RED to chapter meeting on 2/17/16.  Show your support and raise awareness for American Heart Month and encourage others through social media using #GoRedWearRed.
 
                                   
         

 
Sorors, would you contribute a door prize for Healthy Family Day? We are asking for $10 gift cards from Target, Walmart, Kroger, Publix, healthy restaurants or other stores! Please bring a gift card to chapter meeting! *Tip: Go directly to the store of your choice and a $10/gift card can be purchased! If you buy from a place selling all kinds of gift cards, the minimums are usually $20 or $25. 

Social Action:
Delta Days at the Capitol is here!  Join us on March 15th as we head to Capitol Hill! Please click here to learn more about the day’s events. Registration information can also be accessed under the financial news section of this correspondence.

DDAC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!  Rutherford County Alumnae Chapter have the honor of hosting our Delta Days at the Capital on March 15, and they need our help! .  They are soliciting our assistance with registration and hosting  on the day of the event. They need a total of 12 Sorors to be available to assist at First Baptist-Capital Hill, the Capital, and the Legislative Reception.  Sorors that want to volunteer please contact Kelly Harris (901) 634-4029 or ms.kellyharris@gmail.com so that your name and information can be provided to Rutherford County Alumnae.   Let’s show up and show out on March 15th!

Please join the Social Action Committee in signing the petition to encourage state lawmakers to increase funding for Tennessee’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program.  For more information, please contact Kelly Harris via phone at 901-634-4029 or email ms.kellyharris@gmail.com.

RESTORE THE VOTE!  Calling all sorors!  The Social Action Committee will host a training for those interested in helping with Voter Restoration Clinics to be held in late Feb. and April.  The training will take place before Chapter meeting at 5p in the Women’s Building.  We look forward to seeing you there!  

To continue the momentum for the presidential election year, the committee is partnering with local organizations as well as the Public Defenders and Probation and Parole offices to host clinics helping those with legal issues regain their voting rights. The clinics are scheduled for February 27 and April 30, from 9am-2pm at Goodwill Industries. For those interested in helping with the clinics, please contact Soror Kelly Harris (901) 634-4029.

The Social Action Committee has gotten underway in voter registration events and we want your help! There is $100 Visa gift card prize for the Soror who brings in the most voter registration forms to the February chapter meeting!

 


Soror of the Year Awards Nominations 
         

The SOTY Awards will be announced during our 2016 May Week Celebration. There are three categories of awards (1) Soror of the Year; (2) Phoenix Award; and (3) Horizon Award. Deadline for nominations is March 31, 2016. If you would like to nominate a soror for an award please review and complete the above linked forms and e-mail Soror Victoria Caldwell, SOTY Awards Chair at soty@nashvillealumnae.com.

 


Memorial Fund Established at Ole Miss for Soror Pamela E. Hamilton
 
Friends, classmates and relatives of Pamela E. Hamilton, who lost her battle with Lupus last year. have established the Pamela E. Hamilton Memorial Fund at the University of Mississippi.  Sorors who were initiated at Ole Miss, Ole Miss alums, friends, family members and others who may have compassion for this cause are encouraged to consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Pamela E. Hamilton Memorial Fund.  The endowment will be used to support students from the University of Mississippi whose work personifies the use of journalism in social justice. Our goal is to raise $35,000 – at this level the fund will be able to support an annual lecture on social justice and media as well as an annual scholarship to a student in the Meek School of Journalism and New Media.  Click this link for additional information on how you can contribute.

Expiration Dates on medications should be no sooner than six (6) months beyond the projected mission dates (EX: mission date 04/30/2016, medication expiration date should be no sooner than 10/30/2016). We do not carry expired medications.

MOTOWN TICKET DISTRIBUTION!!

Motown Tickets and Passes to the Talkback and Reception will be distributed on Monday, Feb. 15th at Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. 
Please be reminded that you will need your pass to be admitted to the Talkback and Reception. Only Sorors who have paid in full will receive tickets.

Tickets are $60.
Purchase of a ticket is the only way to reserve your spot. Tickets are non-refundable, but may be sold to another soror if you are no longer able to attend because of the date change. There will be no tickets sold at the door.

 
Sorors,
 the Scholarship committee would appreciate it if you would provide this information to graduating female students who meet the criteria for our scholarship.  We will be awarding several $1500 scholarships to deserving students.  The deadline for applications is Feb. 15th.

The Social Action Committee has gotten underway in voter registration events and we want your help! There is $100 Visa gift card prize for the Soror who brings in the most voter registration forms to the February chapter meeting!

 


Soror of the Year Awards Nominations 
         

The SOTY Awards will be announced during our 2016 May Week Celebration. There are three categories of awards (1) Soror of the Year; (2) Phoenix Award; and (3) Horizon Award. Deadline for nominations is March 31, 2016. Memorial Fund Established at Ole Miss for Soror Pamela E. Hamilton

 

Friends, classmates and relatives of Pamela E. Hamilton, who lost her battle with Lupus last year. have established the Pamela E. Hamilton Memorial Fund at the University of Mississippi.  Sorors who were initiated at Ole Miss, Ole Miss alums, friends, family members and others who may have compassion for this cause are encouraged to consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Pamela E. Hamilton Memorial Fund.  The endowment will be used to support students from the University of Mississippi whose work personifies the use of journalism in social justice. Our goal is to raise $35,000 – at this level the fund will be able to support an annual lecture on social justice and media as well as an annual scholarship to a student in the Meek School of Journalism and New Media.  Click this link for additional information on how you can contribute.

Expiration Dates on medications should be no sooner than six (6) months beyond the projected mission dates (EX: mission date 04/30/2016, medication expiration date should be no sooner than 10/30/2016). We do not carry expired medications.

Due to inclement weather, Goodwill Industries will be closing early.  As a result, we are unable to distribute Motown tickets today.

RESCHEDULED TICKET DISTRIBUTION DATE!!

Motown Tickets and Passes to the Talkback and Reception will be distributed on Monday, Feb. 15th at the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, 5:00p to 6:30p.
 

Please be reminded that you will need your pass to be admitted to the Talkback and Reception.  Only Sorors who have paid in full will receive tickets.

Dues Payable for 2016-2017 It’s that time again! Dues are payable from January – March. Please include $5 late fee if payment is not made by March chapter meeting.  

2016 Call to Cluster
 
TN Cluster (April 1-3 in Chattanooga, TN) should be submitted online here and must be purchased through the chapter at the January or February chapter meeting. There will be no onsite registration. Cost is:

Tickets are $60.
A limited number of tickets are available and will be sold on a first come, first served basis on Saturday, February 6, 2016, beginning at 10am at the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center during NAC Executive Board meeting. Purchase of a ticket is the only way to reserve your spot. Tickets are non-refundable, but may be sold to another soror if you are no longer able to attend because of the date change. There will be no tickets sold at the door.

 
 
 


Physical and Mental Health:
 
 
Sorors, let’s show how “We Go Red for Women”.  The Physical and Mental Health committee is asking all Sorors to wear RED on 2/5/16 and to chapter meeting on 2/17/16.  Show your support and raise awareness for American Heart Month and encourage others through social media using #GoRedWearRed.
 

We are accepting donations at Executive Board Meeting on Saturday, Feb. 6th at 10!

Keep on Pounding

“Keep on pounding” is the slogan uttered by Carolina Panthers fans. No, we are not the Panthers, but we love their passion, zeal and tenacity! With that same commitment, we strive to impact the lives of Delta Academy participants.

Strategic Planning is required to successfully complete a task.  The Delta Academy Committee members are asked to attend a team meeting on Thursday, Feb. 4th at 5:30p at Goodwill Industries, located at 937 Herman Street.  See you then and “keep on pounding”!
 


Social Action:
The Social Action Committee, in Partnership with the the Nashville Chapter of The Links, Inc., will be holding a training session for those interested in working in our future clinics focused on voting restoration for residents in the Nashville Metropolitan area. The training will be held at Bordeaux Library on Saturday, February 6th from 10:00a – 11:30a.m. Sorors who are interested in attending this training session, please contact Kelly Harris  via phone at 901-634-4029 or email ms.kellyharris@gmail.com.

The Social Action Committee invites all sorors to our monthly meeting being held tomorrow, February 2nd, at the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center. Our special guests will be the candidates running for Assessor of Property, George Rooker and Soror Vivian Wilhoite. The candidates will be speaking about the position and their ideas for the future of Davidson County. The meeting will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. in the Michelle B. Marrs Boardroom.  

Join us to learn more about what’s in store, as well as have any questions you may have answered.

Our next Never Alone activity is set! Sorors attending Sister Act should be at the theater by 2:30p on Sunday, January 31, 2016. The Cox-Lewis Theater is located at the TSU Performing Arts Center. Please meet at 2:30p in the lobby for seating.  Please bring a check for payment.

There will be four clinics held throughout this year in which we will work closely with local attorneys and the state probation and parole office. A mandatory training session will be held on February 6ht between 9am-11:30am, location TBA. This training session is critical in understanding the restoration process so that we can be effective in our work during the upcoming clinics.  We ask that interested Sorors please contact Kelly Harris by calling (901) 634-4029 or by emailing ms.kellyharris@gmail.com.
